Grand Falls-Windsor Senior’s Wellness Hub

For Immediate Release

Event:   Senior’s Wellness Hub

When:   Friday, 9:30 AM February 19, 2016

Where: Town Hall, Grand Falls-Windsor

The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor Age Friendly Steering Committee (AFSC) is very happy to present the Senior’s Wellness Hub. This is an online video resource with information provided by experts in Grand Falls-Windsor on issues important to seniors and their equally important caregivers. Please see http://www.gfwseniors.com/

Caregivers and soon to be care givers are critical in decisions seniors make as to how they can live a healthy life as they get older. Caregivers in many cases put seniors in position to avail opportunities for healthy eating, physical activity, mental health, social events, housing and host of other things that are specific to families.

“Getting information to caregivers about the many resources available in Grand Falls-Windsor to seniors’ family members or friends cannot be understated “said Councillor Bruce Moores, Chair of the AFSC. He added, “Grand Falls-Winsor like every community in Newfoundland and Labrador has a growing senior population. As a Council we understand our role, we been active in creating new partnerships to educate not only seniors but their caregiver’s. A senior friendly Grand Falls-Windsor is a family friendly Grand Falls-Windsor.”

Chair Moores continued to say, “these videos are a starting point and many more will be added in partnership with experts from small business, Central Health and community based groups.”

Roy Green, Pharmacist-in-Charge, Grand Falls Drugs said “I am very happy to be able to participate in the Senior Wellness Hub, and to provide my expertise and experiences for the benefit of all seniors and their families in Grand Falls-Windsor.

Rose Marie Goodyear, CEO of Central Health commented, “Central Health is committed to the development and strengthening of community partnerships in order to improve services for the aging population.  Supporting seniors and their caregivers is an important aspect of healthy aging.  It is the goal of Central Health to improve access to community services, and the Senior’s Wellness Hub provides an opportunity to increase the knowledge of the many services available to seniors, their families and caregivers.  We are pleased to be a part of this initiative. “
